The DELWP Spatial Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship has been awarded to University of Melbourne student Nonoka Minami.
The scholarship is awarded to high-performing students from diverse backgrounds studying geospatial science and surveying disciplines.
Nonoka, studying for a Master of Spatial Engineering, said of the award:
“I hope that I can be an encouraging force, much like DELWP was to me, for more females and other people outside of STEM to pursue engineering and see their backgrounds as a strength and not a weakness."
Women make up just 4 % of Victoria’s 409 practising licensed surveyors and Surveyor-General Victoria is working to create a more diverse cohort. The scholarship program encourages students of diverse backgrounds to pursue a career in surveying and geospatial sciences.
Nonoka’s scholarship was awarded at a Melbourne University function in August by Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology Dean Mark Cassidy.
