What is land surveying?

Land surveying is the act or process of measuring and mapping any part of the earth’s surface, including any natural or artificial features that exist on, above or below it.

It includes surveys for land subdivision, engineering, construction, mapping and property development.

Surveys performed to determine property boundaries are known as cadastral surveys and can only be performed by licensed surveyors.

Licensed surveyors are registered by the Surveyors Registration Board of Victoria, which authorises them to undertake cadastral surveys and prepare plans showing the location of property boundaries.
