The Vicmap hardcopy map program has been expanded, with 1,160 topographic maps now available through stockists.
The A0-size maps are available in 3 different scales to cater for a variety of purposes and are updated every 18 months. Previously only 270 hardcopy maps were available, with a 5 to 10-year lifecycle.
The 3 map scales now available include:
- 1:100,000 scale that is perfect for an overview map for day trips in vehicles
- 1:50,000 scale for four-wheel driving and camping
- 1:25,000 scale ideal for bushwalking, camping and fossicking.
Topographic maps are ideal for recreational activities, allowing users to plan their outdoor activities and work out where to go, the best route to get there, what to see on the way, and how long the journey will take.
These maps are used by emergency services for planning and operations during emergency events such as bushfires, floods or search and rescue operations. They can also be used for urban planning, site analysis, flora and fauna surveys, educational activities and more.
Users can also access current Vicmap digital topographic maps through Vicmap Topo Online and the Vicmap Viewer mobile app. Through these services, users can discover, purchase and download over 10,000 Victorian topographic maps, including A4 maps ready for home printing.
